Please join us for the 13th Annual Bretz Club Conference & Field Trip

From Magma to Mud:  Uplifting, Transporting, and Degrading Stories from Cascadia

Sky Camp (Yes there is cell service; No wi-fi, but a mobile hotspot will work), Fall Creek, Oregon (Driving directions)

Friday April 8 & Saturday April 9, 2022

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. Please note that if you haven't attended in the last 3 years, you'll need to create a user profile before you can register. If you don’t receive confirmation of your successful registration, check your junk mail folder before contacting Conference Services. Pre-Registration is required to attend Bretz Club.  Questions? email becky dot fasth at oregonstate dot edu.

For the sake of risk reduction, we will continue to request verification of Covid vaccination (directly after registration) or negative PCR-type test results (within 3 days prior to April 7).  Masks will be worn while indoors (except when eating, drinking, giving a presentation, or sleeping).

The 2022 conference starts with your late afternoon arrival on Thursday April 7. Casey J's will be catering for us and will be providing dinner at 6pm Thursday for those who pre-order. We can accomodate late arrivals on Thursday night (bring your flashlight) and early arrivals on Friday.

The scientific program on Friday, April 8 includes three keynote talks by Leif Karlstrom (University of Oregon), Ashley Streig (Portland State University) and Maureen Walczak (Oregon State University).  If you'd like to share your own science, plan to give a pop-up talk (short 3 minute presentations on quite literally anything from ideas to announcements or otherwise) or contribute to the poster session. Friday evening after the final keynote talk, we’ll hold our inexplicably popular raffle of participant-donated geomorphic items and musical jam-session (yes, there is a Bretz song-book).

On Saturday, April 9, we will sweep out our bunks, and head to the field for an exciting day of fluvial geomorphology. "What's the dam difference? Contrasting styles of geomorphic responses to flood control dams on adjacent basins: Fall Creek and Middle Fork Willamette Rivers" with stops led by Mackenzie Keith and Rose Wallick (USGS). The conference will officially conclude late afternoon following the field trip.

This year's cost for the 2-day (2 night) conference is $180 for professionals and $100 for students. If you register as a student you will be asked to fill a volunteer position during the conference. Please direct all registration and billing questions to OSU conference services.

Notes:

  1. Accommodations at Sky Camp are comfortable, but bedding and linens are NOT provided by Sky Camp or the conference organizers. Bring your own towels and sleeping gear, including a sleeping bag or blankets, and pillow. There is ample space for tent/trailer camping (tent stakes are NOT allowed).
  2. There may be limited outlets for electrical use. Consider bringing back-up power sources, solar-chargers and powerstrips for maximizing electron sharing.
  3. Please BYOB & snacks for Thursday and Friday evening happy hour(s).
  4. Consider donating an item of geomorphological interest to our raffle. Ticket are $1 each and help keep registration costs low.
