2026 Bretz Club Conference and Field Trip

Landscape Succession Through Deep Time

The cost for the 2-day (2 night) conference is $200 for professionals and $100 for students. If you register as a student you will be asked to fill a volunteer position during the conference.  Registration will close on April 22 or when capacity is reached, whichever comes first.

Arrivals at Camp Hancock can begin around 5pm on Friday May 8th.  Dinner will be served near 6pm for those who register for it!

The scientific program begins on Saturday May 9th and includes talks by 3 speakers ranging from the complex development of this area to local stream restoration efforts, followed by a walking field trip from Camp Hancock. If you'd like to share your own science, plan to give a pop-up talk (short 3-minute presentations on quite literally anything from ideas to announcements or novel observations) or contribute to the poster session, all of which will take place on Saturday followed by our fabulously popular raffle and musical jam-session.

On Sunday May 10th, we will head out for an exciting day of geomorphology on the Field Trip.  The conference will officially conclude in the afternoon following the field trip.

Friday, May 8th

Afternoon/evening arrivals, check-in, meet & greet, load your pop-up talk, buy raffle tickets

Saturday, May 9th

7:30-8:30am Breakfast, continued registration

8:30-9am Welcome and introductions

9-10:15am Presentation 1: Jason McClaughry, DOGAMI, "A brief account of a long geologic history in north-central Oregon: a journey from Condon's Two Islands to Modern Canyons"

10:15-10:30am Short break

10:30-11:45am Presentation 2: Nic Famoso, National Park Service, Title to follow

11:45-12:45pm Lunch / Raffle items displayed, tickets sold – hang up posters

1-3pm Walking Field Trip and networking time

3-4:00 Posters and upload pop-ups

4-4:45 pm Presenter 3: Kevin Pullen, Warm Springs Tribes, Pine Creek Conservation Manager

5-6 pm Dinner (final chance to upload pop-ups)

6-7pm Pop-Ups

8pm Raffle

After Raffle: – general merriment and fun / singing, etc.

Sunday, May 10th

7:30-8:30am Breakfast – clean up – Grab lunch

8:30am: Depart for Field Trip

Other notes about this year:

  1. Bedding will NOT be provided by Camp Hancock or the conference organizers. Bring your own sleeping gear, including a sleeping bag or blankets, and pillows. There are mats on the bunk beds.
  2. Bring a flashlight! Also consider bringing a travel mug for coffee, especially if you want coffee in the field.
  3. Please bring drinks & snacks for Friday evening. Alcoholic beverages, smoking, or vaping are not allowed at Camp Hancock.
  4. Consider donating an item of geomorphological interest to our raffle. Tickets are $1 each and help keep registration costs low.  We suggest bringing cash for the raffle!
  5. Registration will close two weeks before the event, possibly sooner if we reach capacity, so plan to register long before April 22!
